Film Adds 5/30/16

Had a very busy week with the DVD hunt, purchasing titles from DeepDiscount.com (50% off Horror sale) and a gift from my friend Christian Scheer (Six Ways To Sunday)…Katyn is a replacement to my previous disc which was not in the best shape and The Stendhal Syndrome is a BluRay upgrade from a bargain basement release, everything else is new to the collection.

FILM ADDS 5/15/16

A “slow” week for me, but I did find some interesting OOP titles, including the 1998 Fox Lorber release of UNION CITY (1980). Sadly, this disc is full frame and a terrible transfer. I need to seek out the 2006 UK release of it. Nevertheless, I was thrilled to find it as it’s a highly desired disc for me. My Fox Film Noir collection comes closer to completion with SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT. Movie Stop is closing the location nearest to me, so I was able to nab HIGH KICK GIRL and TOTALLY F*CKED UP for relatively cheap.

A little bit of everything…

FILM ADDS 5/8/16

Totally out of control this week…I hit a pawn shop I haven’t been to in a bit and scored nicely. Some of the titles here where chosen to fill a 10 for $10 special. Most expensive thing here was A Woman With Red Hair (1979)…after I saw the lowest online price anywhere was $29.99, paying $8.99 seemed reasonable. Lots of great DVDs/BluRays and films with “potential” here…IMAG3957IMAG3956IMAG3955

Film Adds 5/1/16 (and a surprise unboxing!)

A pretty good week finding solid films out there…The Blus are all upgrades, for $3.00 each was not going to say no. A Midnight Clear is a puzzler. I have been looking for this on DVD forever and this copy is sadly full screen. The thing is after some research, I found that studio decided to release it as such and it to the best of my knowledge, it hasn’t been reissued here in the States. Oh well, it’s a great small WW2 film that Band of Brothers definitely took some ideas from. I am also sticking my toes into the waters that is Marilyn Monroe films, I have been rethinking my position on her and her acting.

And now….a surprise unboxing!

Many of us in the film community collect and trade or just send films to each other. It’s usually something the other cannot get a hold of easily. Unboxings are usually done on video but since I have basically abandoned that part (for now), here is a virtual unboxing! My buddy Marko Suuronen from the great land of Finland told me he wanted to send me a film he knew I wanted. I said OK and I hope to return the favor. I received the envelope the other day…

ACK! The latest Gaspar Noe film, LOVE, on Finnish DVD. I don’t have a region free stand alone player as of yet but can watch this on my computer no problem. Well, I watch 95% of movies on the PC anyway. Marko, thank you so much for this, can’t wait to see it!

NIGHT GALLERY Season One DVD

Well, I was at a local Walmart in Centerville, GA (which has a better selection of DVD/Bluray than some of the others in the area) and noticed this on the shelf for $15.00. That is a great price new and having the 3 episode pilot that was made into a film, I was all in. Curious though…This was released in 2004 (!) and not reissued. I wonder what the story behind that is…did they have a crate of these sitting in some abandoned warehouse for 12 years? I did some research and found that S2 was released in 2008 and the final season in 2012. Just found it weird. Maybe in another 4 years, Season two will appear on the shelves!
